What is Clean Eating?
Clean eating,
is truly the new craze but with good reason!
No, guys it’s not all about making sure those bell peppers are clean before chewing them
down (hmmm but that’s probably not a bad idea to ensure right). There is not really a
text book definition but in general if you wanted the down and dirty guideline I would
tell you to stay away and not eat any foods that are processed. Processed, meaning
you find it in a can or a box at the grocery store, it can last in your pantry through
the next nuclear bombing and something that typically in more along the center
aisles of the grocery store for the most part. So what’s the big deal all about your
probably asking, and so many of you when ordering a all fresh fruit smoothie at
Pumpd always ask me should I try it, too?
What’s the Deal?
Ok so the term “clean eating” is recently the buzz and kind of the new buzz term,
the idea/concept originates from the 1960s and its (hippy-chicky) health-focused
condemnation of diets containing high amounts of processed foods. Well fitfam
not all processed food is in my opinion done the same and my example is a bag of
spinach. That is still something I think you could buy without being die hard about
the subject. The “rules” of eating clean really vary a lot, and I want to note that
the diet isn’t really about losing and/or gaining weight — it’s just about eating
healthier. However, there are so MANY customers that I have helped either online
or that come into the store that we have helped them lose some serious LBS
(pounds abbreviated). Call it more of a lifestyle NOT a diet….
Why it Matters
The benefits to eating whole foods are plentiful and I am sure many of you have
heard me say pick your prescription. Either you spend a little more $$ on eating whole
foods “clean eating” or spend a FORTUNE later on the true prescription of MEDICINE.
Not to mention you will prevent so many illnesses like high blood pressure, diabetes
and a slew of others.. Finally before I get off my soap box, 80% of trans fats come
from processed foods — yikes! These trans fats increase LDL the BAD cholesterol.
Is it Legit?
All signs point to yes!!!!! Check my about page and look at my before and after pics
or the before and after pics of the Pumpd customers that took the challenge. The key
is to being a successful clean eater is eliminating as much processed food as possible NOW.
Now I can imagine many of you laughing right now because you know I’m like a drill
sergeant but here’s the good news…..It’s also important to note that allowing yourself
a cheat day every now and then will actually help you adapt this as a lifestyle versus it
being a “diet” for the long-term. There is a lot of research that suggests that the occasional
cheat day can actually boost metabolism by increasing leptin production up again, which
can help the body burn more calories after overeating (don’t get to excited its only temporary).
Other than eating super clean for to long another method of dropping them is by reducing
calories which can also cause leptin levels (hormone for maintaining our energy balance
and weight loss) to decrease, but temporarily increasing calorie intake can also give a
boost to leptin production. It’s that bump that can briefly increase metabolism (by about
30 percent, for up to 24 hours).
Plus, we all deserve a gone bananas smoothie fully loaded on Friday night after a long week of clean eating right?!!!
